The results of a survey carried out by the Vox Populi Pooling Institute during the XVIII FNA edition are already available in this site

This year, the pooling institute elaborated questionnaires to identify the relationship between the Feira Nacional and the touristic dynamics of the region. Some of the items included in the questionnaire were the time of residence in the city ; the kind of accommodation of the national and international visitors and the activities in Belo Horizonte , simultaneous to the fair .

Another successful edition

On November 25 the 18th edition of the Feira Nacional de Artesanato - FNA (National Craft Fair) came to an end. The event is definitely part of Brazil 's calendar. In this edition, we had the participation of craftspeople from all 26 Brazilian states and the Federal District . According to the expositors, there were plenty of customers. More than ever the FNA has become a global craft meeting. The participation of foreigners coming from Latin American countries, Asia and Europe was a tradition, this year the participation was even greater due to the homage to the African continent. Countries such as Kenia , Zimbabwe , Senegal , Marrocos and others, were represented in the Expominas, with excellent sales results. The “Africa Space”, brought into scene artists connected to Belo Horizonte's Afro-American culture, workshops and lectures with scholars specialized on the African culture. In addition to the Festival de Arte Negra (African Art Festival), organized by Belo Horizonte 's city government, the exposition dedicated to Africa transformed Belo Horizonte into the capital of African-American culture for a week.

Craftsmen's reports show that the fair grows each year. Although there still aren't official numbers, everything indicates that the financial movement of the XVIII Feira Nacional de Artesanato was even greater than the last edition - when more than US$ 33 million were spent. The number of visitors also grew, there were more than 25 thousand people (among expositors, organization and public) in the exposition, on Saturday. When the calculation table is completed, it is expected to reveal that there were about 170 thousand visitors at the fair, which will be a higher total than what was registered in 2006.

The theme of the FNA in 2007 was the circus, reason why the atmosphere was filled with happiness. Circus groups from Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro entertained the visitors, especially children. Clowns, jugglers and contortionists entertained people and passers-by while they took brakes from shopping. In addition, folkloric choirs such as the group “Meninas de Sinhá”, frevo dance and the Rural Maracatu parade (coming directly from the northeastern state of Pernambuco), helped to create a pleasant environment to craftspeople and customers.

The workshops and lectures held during the event delighted participants. At Centro CAPE 's stand, the visitors had contact with professionals responsible for the business area, production chains, participation in fairs, exports, among other subjects. Thanks to the support of the Fundação Banco do Brasil (Bank of Brazil Foundation), every workshop and lecture was free to the fair visitors.

Zero Waste

The Feira Nacional de Artesanato (National Craft Fair) continues to innovate and, in 2007, recycled all waste products from the last fair. The carpets were used in the production of poufs, center tables, chairs and doormats that decorated the fair leisure area. At the end of the event, those pieces were donated to nursery schools and resting houses. Around eight thousand bags made of last edition banners, were given to shopkeepers who visited the event.

Support and Sponsorship

The success of the Feira Nacional de Artesanato (National Craft Fair) wouldn't be possible without the support of public and private institutions that, in each edition, carried out actions that allowed the participation of associations and cooperatives from the whole country. Petrobrás, - which for four consecutive years sponsors the event - is a fundamental partner throughout the whole process. Besides the financial investment, Petrobrás brings to the fair the subscription of a company which grants credibility to the event. The Fair also receives the support of Cemig (electrical company of Minas Gerais), the Government of Minas Gerais, Fundação Banco do Brasil (Bank of Brazil Foundation), among other institutions that invest in social inclusion and income generation through crafts. In 2007, the Ministry of Tourism sponsored the transportation, the accommodation and food for craftspeople from all Brazilian states, who could then exhibit and market their productions in the biggest window for crafts in Latin America .

In 2008, the “100 years anniversary of Japanese Immigration to Brazil ” will be the theme of the fair. From November 25th to 30th, Expominas will be the stage of a true celebration of friendship between the two cultures which although very different from one another, have been walking hand in hand for a century.

The totalizing of all numbers, the finalization of all survey results and the official balance of the XVIII Feira Nacional de Artesanato carried out by the Vox Populi Pooling Institute will be released in this site in the next days.
