The fair - which started in 1989 with just 60 stands and 200 expositors - is proud today of being considered the greatest fair in Latin America .
In 2007, 8,600 expositors from all Brazilian states and 12 different countries from Latin America , Africa and Europe , occupied 1,100 stands in the largest Convention Center of Minas Gerais : the Expominas.
170 thousand visitors, 80 thousand tourists and international buyers among them, spent millions of dollars in internal purchases and other U$ 800,000.00 in exports.
Organized by the Institute Centro CAPE , the Feira Nacional de Artesanato (National Craft Fair) is part of the Brazilian Expositions and Fairs Calendar of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Commerce. It is also classified as a cultural event by the Law of Cultural Incentive from the Ministry of Culture.
The survey carried out by the Pooling Institute Nexus shows great rates of approval by the expositors and buyers present in the 2006 fair. According to the survey the general rating of positive evaluation of the XVII Feira Nacional de Artesanato in 2006, was 97.4%. Of those who visited the event, 93.8% went home satisfied and 90.9% intend to come back in 2007.
The numbers of visitors, commercialized craft pieces, number of Brazilian states and countries that participated and the volume of trade and deals during the event has increased every year, showing that the Feira Nacional de Artesanato is a success. During the past 18 years it has come to be considered an important window for the Brazilian craft production.
